THINGS TO DO ON THE ISLE OF SKYE & BEYOND
The Isle of Skye has a wondrous diversity of landscape, wildlife and culture. Crepigill Lodge is quite centrally based on the Island with bars, a restaurant, golf course and fishing all within walking distance, plus the historic site of St. Columba’s Island . The Lodge provides a base from which to travel further to the dramatic coasts of the west and north aswell as to the more lowland ‘Garden of Skye’ areas of the south.
The world-famous Cuillin Mountains are just south of Portree and dominate the island skyline at Sligachan (pronounced Slig–a-hun). They can be enjoyed with low level walking along well-marked trails or for the more adventurous; there is rugged terrain, climbing and a long walk to the beautiful Loch Coriusk that nestles on the southward side of the Black and Red Cuillins. Bella Jane Boat Trips operate from Elgol, which is reached via Broadford and can take you right into this Loch . Other local places of interest are The Quirang land formation in north Skye, Neiste Point Lighthouse – the most westerly tip of Skye from which the island ring of the Outer Hebrides and fantastic sunsets can be surveyed – visitor attractions such as the famous Talisker Distillery and Talisker Bay and a whole range of activities from horse riding to cycling and sea angling. The Isle of Skye is a fantastic place for truly escaping urban life and for getting some real fresh air and renewing the spirit. The roads remain quiet even in the midst of the traditional tourist season (May – August) and you can always find a quiet spot to enjoy the scenery in peace.
Portree is the main town on the Isle of Skye and is just a 10 minute drive away. Here you will find supermarkets, shops, banks, cash points, post office, medical facilities and service stations. There are several excellent places to eat on the island with plenty of local seafood available, especially scallops, lobster, crab and langoustines which are selectively hand-dived and caught by local people.
Cars and bikes can also be hired locally. |
